Albert here is pictured enjoying that classic item of Kiwiana, the Bouncinette.
Generations of New Zealand infants have been rocked gently to sleep in these things, including myself, Second Chef, and the grandparents of the Chef de Plunge.
When we were offered one of these there was no way we could say no.
So, did you bounce in one of these too?

you know OSH has outlawed them as too many kids were sent flying from them like a catapult!

Sure did!
My dad says, “She used to move this bouncer up & down so fast it moved across the floor.”

I think that was those walker things that have been discouraged. Kiddies kept walking them down stairs.

Oh and I had the same type, too: http://eaton.net.nz/photoalbums/Albums/Joanna/tn/004.jpg.html

I didn’t have one of these – I had a hardwood floor instead. However my kids all had a similar padded version – an an essesntial piece of equipment with baby #2 and #3 when I was running out of spare hands

Oh yes, I bounced, and when my baby brother came along to occupy it I was given a smaller version for my dolls.

Indeed I did! As did the Misses Ten, Seven and Seven. With the Misses Seven, I would put one in her bouncinette, and gently rock it with my foot while feeding the other, and then swap them over, and bounce and feed.
A vital piece of baby equipment.

But.. judging by that photo, the Chef du plunge has arrived, and you haven’t told us. And you never told us it was going to have a big nose! Shame, shame, I say.

indeed. one should always keep the ugly one in the family secret. especially if they strongly resemble a small blue elephant.

Yep, I had one of these, and so did my children. We’re moving this week, we’ve just pulled it down from the garage rafters.
We had to stop using it with my daughter, who at a terrifyingly young age had worked out how to wriggle out the top of it and leap to her doom.

Nope but my parents were overseas when they had me.

Sure did, and like you have sourced one for the new generation…

Babies come and babies grow but a good Bouncinette…
This is legacy stuff Che. We inherited one from Deborah and now that our youngest (of three) has finished with it we have to find a deserving home for it.
