- This was like trying to read the Old Testament. But boring.
PS. I’m giving it a second chance. Thus far, not great, but curious. You can see how the characters of the book are prototypes of the Lord of the Rings.

Hmmmm…I rather enjoyed it. Much more than The Silmarillion (?). I liked the fable quality, its sense of Legend, and I thought the illustrations were nice.

1. I’m a Tolkien fan.
2. I have read the lot, lots of times.
3. I was delighted when my husband bought me The Children of Hurin hot off the press.
4. I couldn’t finish it. Too turgid, too depressing.

This reminds me of the old long haul Air New Zealand when the hostess would ask:

- Yeah. Sounds great! What are my choices?
